Fresh. Local. Delicious.
That’s the way at By the Bay. We pride ourselves on using fresh ingredients from local suppliers wherever possible, and altering our menus to reflect the changing seasons.
All our meals are prepared from fresh local ingredients every day – sourced from our favourite Lyme Regis, Dorset, and West Country suppliers. Succulent farm assured meats, flavourful fish and seafood, crisp and crunchy veggies and salad stuffs – all arrive in our kitchen daily to be transformed into everyone’s favourite seaside fare.
From fish and chips, fish pie and moules frites to mouth-watering steaks, traditional Sunday roasts, comforting winter casseroles and vegetarian delights, we have them all.
Local Produce. Local Suppliers
Wherever possible, we source our ingredients from local suppliers from across Lyme Regis, Dorset and the West Country.
Caterfood of Paignton
This family run business is responsive, reliable and a key link in our supplier network. Much of the food they deliver to our kitchen is produced here in the West Country and as they have been supporting local restaurants like ours for nearly 35 years, we know they understand our needs – and those of our customers – and have, over the years, developed the very best contacts and companies across the region.
Framptons of Bridport
This high-class family butcher is one of the leading providers of delicious, top quality meat in the area and we’re proud to count the Framptons team among our most valued suppliers, delivering superb meat to our kitchens all year round.
Graingers of Dorchester
A wonderful, family business that we rely on to deliver the freshest fruit, veg and salad stuffs to By the Bay, bringing colour, vitality and inspiration to our dishes.
Kingfisher of Brixham
Brixham’s port has one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK, and much of the fish we use in the restaurant comes from the Fish Markets located on the quayside. Of course, we get through a whole lot of fish and seafood at By the Bay, so we use Kingfisher, a wholesale operation that is both passionate about fish and committed to a policy of only supplying sustainably sourced fresh fish and seafood.
People often ask us if we have a kid’s menu. The short answer is ‘no’! Why? Because we don’t believe in dishing up different food for little people – we want them to grow up enjoying the same tasty treats as their Mums and Dads. So instead of fast food chicken nuggets and chips, bangers and mash, or spag bol, we serve up half size portions of our delicious moules frites, handmade burgers, pasta dishes, Sunday roasts, veggie options – and more.
The kids love it – and so does great Aunty Mary now that her appetite’s not so good. You might even plump for a half portion yourself occasionally – after all, it’s one way to make sure you have room for your favourite dessert!
There’s no doubt about it – we’re truly family friendly at By the Bay. And dogs are welcome too. Our regularly changing menu and daily specials have something for everyone, whatever their tastes and appetite – from breakfast right through until dinner-time, all year round.
We’ve high chairs for babies, colouring kits to keep the little ones entertained, water bowls for thirsty doggies, sloppy sofas for chilling out, smiley helpful staff to make you feel at home, delicious food and a wide range of hot, cold and alcoholic refreshments. What more could you ask for?
Our menu changes with the season, reflecting the best fresh, local produce that our kitchen team can source from West Country suppliers. Our Daily Specials Board offers fresh fish, direct from the market, and seasonal treats that we can only source from time to time. It adds variety to our core offering of customer favourites and allows the kitchen team to be creative with some of the wonderful produce that comes our way but may only be available in small quantities.
Every Sunday, we serve a traditional Sunday Lunch with all the trimmings and from October until April we also have a great value Table d’Hote Menu, offering two courses for £10.95 and three for just £14.95. Throughout December we also have scrumptious Christmas Menu for parties of six or more – it’s always hugely popular and is reputed to rival your Mum’s Christmas Day extravaganza!
And finally, if you have any special dietary requirements or concerns, interesting vegetarian and gluten-free meals are always available. Indeed, we are happy to do everything we can to accommodate your needs and answer your questions – just call us or drop us an email ahead of your visit.
Please note that drinks will only be served with food orders between 11.30am & 3pm.
In a rush? Too busy to stop for lunch? Prefer to sit on the beach or take your fish and chips back to your beach hut?
No problem …
Our takeaway serves the same delicious fish and chips as the restaurant – together with hot and cold drinks and all your other takeaway favourites. And if it’s pudding your’re after, then there’s a delicious ice cream or ice lolly waiting for you in the cold cabinet.
Opening hours for the Takeaway are seasonal and weather dependent – but we’re open all summer long, through out the school holidays and all year round at the weekends – so long as it’s not raining cats and dogs (or blowing a gale)!
